An Athlete’s Tale
The long anticipated London Olympics is here, only the fittest individuals were elected to partake in this magnificent event, while the rest of us sit back and gaze at the intense battle between 216 nations fight for the gold medals. The London 2012 games are no place for those who lack strength, only the strong will survive. Some believe that an athlete’s journey is effortless, all they need to do is train and that’s it. Well, we need to end this propaganda. As an athlete, your career is a constant test and if you are a well dedicated sports man or woman, you will find little time to have a social life as the Olympic Games will consume a vast majority of your time. To become an athlete you will need to go through 10 steps, the first one is to assess your physical condition, this will conclude what form you are currently in and assist you to select the best sport that is right for you. Step two is choosing a sport – most athletes pick a sport they are already good at, for instance, if you have a hobby in swimming or tennis you may be one step ahead. Step three is to find a place to train, this is basically physical development. You need to enhance your skills doing diverse activities using local athletic clubs, recreation centres etc.
The next step in your athletics journey will be vital, as you will need to join the National Governing Body, they are a group of people who formulate the policies and make changes. Now it is time to start competing (if you haven’t already started), your NGB will hosts various tournaments that starts on the local level and it is important to build a national rating. Step six is to get a trainer, everybody needs help to reach perfection. Step seven, envision your success. Can you see yourself at the number one? If not, then you should start? Step eight is very important, attaining the finance to do so. You will need funds to maintain your career. Step nine, get yourself in National Championships, and finally step ten, qualifying for the Olympics. Not that easy is it? This career path has many obstacles to conquer, so if you are not enthusiastic and ambitious, you will not reach vey far in the London Olympics 2012.
